The department of ISE organized a technical talk on 29th March 2019 which was delivered by Mrs Harini Shah the technical talk was inaugurated by Head of the department Mr. Jayant Kumar A Rathod, Forum coordinator Mr. Manjunath H.R and other faculties. He spoke on the topic of “Design Thinking.

In this session, first She spoke about Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It’s extremely useful in tackling complex problems that are ill-defined or unknown, by understanding the human needs involved, by re-framing the problem in human-centric ways, by creating many ideas in brainstorming sessions, and by adopting a hands-on approach in prototyping and testing. Understanding these five stages of Design Thinking will empower anyone to apply the Design Thinking methods in order to solve complex problems that occur around us.

She briefly explained that Design Thinking plays an important role for companies of all industries and sizes. It helps articulate what the end customer’s experience is going to be like. At the same time, it leaves enough space for open-ended brainstorming and continuous learning. As potential dead ends are detected early due to iteration Design Thinking can accelerate the innovation process and save costs.

She explained about IDEO’s Design Thinking: The 7 Rules for Brainstorming

Defer judgement, Encourage wild ideas, Build on others’ ideas, Stay on topic,

One conversation at a time, Be visual, Go for quantity.

Finally on behalf of the Management, Principal, Staff and students, we would thank Mrs. Harini Shah for delivering the Technical Talk.

Technical Talk-12 (Conducted on 22nd May 2017)

The ISE Forum conducted technical talk on Anti-Spoofing methods for Biometrics, Challenges and Current Solution, by Dr. Thippeswamy G, Professor and Head, Dept. of CSE, BMS Institute of Technology, Velahanka, Bengaluru. Spoofing, referred to by the term presentation attack in current standards, is a purely biometric vulnerability that is not shared with other IT security solutions. It refers to the ability to fool a biometric system into recognizing an illegitimate user as a genuine one by means of presenting a synthetic forged version of the original biometric trait to the sensor.

The entire biometric community, including researchers, developers, standardizing bodies, and vendors, has thrown itself into the challenging task of proposing and developing efficient protection methods against this threat. In the emerging field of anti-spoofing, with special attention to the mature and largely deployed face modality. He discussed theories, methodologies, state-of-the-art techniques, and evaluation databases aims at providing an outlook into the future of this very active field of research. Dr. Thippeswamy showed his willingness to help students in research work in the areas of Biometrics, Video Processing, Medical Imaging, Document analysis, Remote Sensing and Forensics.

Technical Talk-11 (Conducted on 15th May 2017)

The ISE Forum conducted a technical talk on Knowledge Discovery in Databases and it’s Application. Dr. Pushpa Ravi Kumar, Professor and Head, Dept. of CSE, AIT, Chickmagalur was the honourable resource person. The term Knowledge Discovery in Databases, or KDD for short, refers to the broad process of finding knowledge in data, and emphasizes the "high-level" application of particular data mining methods. It is of interest to researchers in machine learning, pattern recognition, databases, statistics, artificial intelligence, knowledge acquisition for expert systems, and data visualization.

The unifying goal of the KDD process is to extract knowledge from data in the context of large databases. It does this by using data mining methods (algorithms) to extract (identify) what is deemed knowledge, according to the specifications of measures and thresholds, using a database along with any required pre-processing, sub sampling, and transformations of that database.

Dr. Pushpa gave several examples to illustrate that knowledge discovery and data mining are distinct. KDD refers to the overall process of discovering useful knowledge from data. It involves the evaluation and possibly interpretation of the patterns to make the decision of what qualifies as knowledge. Data mining refers to the application of algorithms for extracting patterns from data without the additional steps of the KDD process.

Technical Talk-10 (Conducted on 13th May 2017)

The ISE Forum Technical talk was delivered by Sri. Ranjith Kumar T. R, Trainer, Infosys Mysore on May 13th, 2017. The topic was Software Engineering Practices in Industries. Sri. IoT makes developing applications easier with hardware, software and support to connect anything to the internet. Mr. Kiran Kumar interacted with the students regarding six key markets for the IoT with potential for exponential growth.

Smart homes enable owners to customize and control their home environments for increased security and efficient energy management. Wearables are one of the hottest trends in IoT Apple, Samsung, Jawbone and plenty of others are joining the cut-throat competition. Retail sector -home appliances could notify you when supplies are short and order them all on their own. Smart cities- have real, substantial solutions for complications that arise due to population surges, pollution, poor infrastructure and energy supply shortages. Agriculture-The Phenonet Project is designed to help farmers monitor vital information like humidity, air temperature and soil quality using remote sensors. This project helps farmers improve yield, plan more efficient irrigation and make harvest forecasts. Transportation-IoT is making self-driving and/or connected cars a reality. Automotive industry leaders such as BMW, Ford and GM and newer entrants in the auto space like Google, Local Motors and Uber are announcing and deploying innovative technologies to support connected car platforms. Health Care-UroSense is a smart fluid management solution offered by Future Path Medical. It helps early care of medical conditions like diabetes, prostate cancer, heart failure and sepsis.

Understanding the Internet of Things and the true potential of IoT applications is truly dazzling. Mr. Kiran Kumar asked students to stay focused on the IoT space and maybe you’ll be the next IoT innovator who transforms a product, service or even an entire whole industry.

Technical Talk-3

The Department of ISE organized a technical talk on 3rd March 2016 which was delivered by Dr.Govardhan Hegde K, Sr. Assistant Professor, MIT, Manipal on the topic “MPI Programming”.

In this session Dr. Hegde revealed about Parallel programming which is the language support to the parallel algorithm on parallel computer. Exploiting the full potential of a parallel computer requires a cooperative effort between the user and language system. A parallel program on this computer is a collection of cooperating processes which execute concurrently.

He also explained regarding the Super computer which is a computer with high level computational capacity compared to a general-purpose computer. Performance of a super computer is measured in floating point operations per second (FLOPS) instead of millions of instruction.

Parallel architecture: There are two types of parallel architecture one is distributed memory and shared memory. Distributed memory contains explicit data distribution, explicit communication, programming through open MP, scalable. Shared memory contains implicit data distribution, implicit communication.

Passing arguments: In MPI programmers via their programs as a collection of codes. MPI is message-passing library interface specification. MPI add primarily the message passing parallel programming model, in which data is moved from the address source of one process to another process through cooperative operation.

System requirements: mpi_x64.msi, mpi_x86.msi these two are the MPI installer, Visual studio. Then he explained about the MPI program structure, environmental management routines and MPI error handling which contains a MPI communicator, error handler, default error handler.

MPI point to point operations, MPI sends and receives. If a sender sends two messages (message one and message two) in succession to the same destination, both match the same receiver.

Technical Talk-2
